Buzz Hargrove, president of the Canadian Auto Workers’
Union (CAW), calls himself "a socialist without a home". So,
where has our homeless leftist been lately? He has gone from backing Paul
Martin’s federal Liberal candidates to endorsing Ontario Liberal Premier
Dalton McGuinty.
Hargrove credits McGuinty with consulting the CAW
regularly and investing $500 million into the auto industry. Mind you,
that is taxpayers’ dollars going into private mega-enterprises, with no
public equity to show for it.
Wouldn’t any self-respecting socialist insist on a quid pro quo,
if not outright public ownership under workers’ control?
While the CAW Council did not formally back the Ontario
Liberal Party and its government, now hurtling towards the Oct. 10
provincial election, Hargrove’s presentation to McGuinty of a CAW
sweatshirt will be the Kodak moment splashed across Liberal brochures
come the Fall campaign. Shame,
once again, on the Buzzer.
