The revolutionary socialist movement in the Canadian
state is diminished by the loss of a beloved veteran militant.
Lois Dowson Bédard, a lifelong socialist, feminist,
teacher activist, NDP militant and anti-war stalwart, passed away on
December 14, just shy of her 83rd birthday. Lois was predeceased by
her brothers Ross, Murray and Hugh, who helped to re-launch the Canadian
Trotskyist movement after World War 2, and is survived by her sister
Joyce.
Lois helped to found Organized Working Women, was a
leader of the NDP Left Caucus in the 1980s, and was a member of the
Forward Group (launched after a 1974 split from the League for Socialist
Action, led by Ross Dowson).
Our sincere condolences go to the comrades, family and
friends of Lois.
