New Democratic Party officials present at the CLC
Convention told this reporter that the party’s federal convention,
originally slated for Halifax, Nova Scotia in September 2008, is now
postponed to occur in late August 2009 in Halifax.
The rationale for this decision, which violates the
party constitution requiring a federal convention every two years (the
previous one being held in Quebec City in September 2006), is
anticipation of a federal general election. Ironically, given the
present minority government situation in Parliament, a federal election
is equally possible just before or after the summer of 2009. Have I
just forecast another undemocratic convention postponement?
