An
International Educational Conference set for Toronto, May 22-25
You won't want to miss this. Four days of stimulating, enriching
political education, discussions and debates on the biggest issues facing
humanity. Get set for an exciting international revolutionary
socialist conference titled "A World in Revolt: Prospects for
Socialism in the 21st Century", to be held in Toronto, Canada, May
22-25, 2008.
Co-sponsored by Socialist Action-Canada, Socialist Action-US, and the
Socialist Unity League (LUS) of Mexico, the gathering will feature writer,
scientist and foremost Cuban proponent of Trotskyism, Celia Hart. It
will also showcase Esteban Volkov, Mexico City-based 82 year-old grandson
of Leon Trotsky; Bryan Palmer, Canadian biographer of the founder of
American communism, James P. Cannon; Gerry Foley, international editor of
SA newspaper; Jeff Mackler, SA National Secretary and co-coordinator of the
Campaign to Free Mumia Abu-Jamal; Christine Gauvreau, prominent U.S. east
coast anti-war movement leader; Mexican LUS leader Ismael Contreras; Ali
Mallah, Vice-President of the Canadian Arab Federation; Ian Angus, Editor,
Climate and Capitalism; Venezuela’s Consul General in Toronto, Mirna Quero
de Pena, plus socialist activists from Quebec, Atlantic Canada, and
Ontario, the Labour movement, the feminist movement, the NDP, Palestine
anti-apartheid solidarity, environmental struggles, and many other areas.
“A
World in Revolt” will be a magnet for youth, as well as for veteran
militants and newly interested folks from across North America.
Conference
topics include: Prospects for Socialist Revolution in Venezuela and
Latin America; Was Che Guevara a Trotskyist?; U.S. Imperialism in Crisis --
the Failing War in Iraq and the Deepening Crisis at Home; James P. Cannon
and the Revolutionary Tradition in North America; the Class Struggle in
Canada and Quebec; Feminism, Anti-Racism and Immigrants' Rights; Palestine,
the Annapolis trap and the Global Boycott Campaign; Eco-Socialism or
Barbarism?; and Labour's Retreat and its Coming Re-resurgence. There
will also be a special lunch time encounter with Celia Hart and Esteban
Volkov Bronstein.
