May 20: Hands off Cuba
and Venezuela!

Venezuelan and Cuban solidarity organizations and many
others have endorsed a march on May 20 in Washington, D.C. They demand
"an end to the U.S. government’s campaign of lies, threats, and
sanctions against Venezuela and Cuba." There is a West Coast rally
scheduled the same day in Los Angeles.
May 20 provides an opportunity to gather peace and
justice activists who seek to build a strong national movement that can
continue to oppose the U.S. government’s efforts over 45 years to overthrow
the Cuban government and its more recent aggression against Venezuela.
The demonstration comes during a heightened level of
conflict between Washington and the most radical regimes of Latin America.
Venezuela and Cuba continue to raise the ire of the U.S. government,
especially since enlisting Bolivia as a new ally against imperialist
economic and political domination throughout the region.
Daniel Ortega, the Sandinista leader running for
president in Nicaragua, has also vowed to join ALBA (the mutual aid
economic bloc of Cuba, Venezuela, and Bolivia) if elected this November.
The Washington, D.C., march will begin at 10 a.m. in
Malcolm X Park, 15th St. & Euclid NW. It ends at Lafayette Park, with a
2 p.m. rally in front of the White House. The West Coast event will
assemble at noon in Los Angeles at the downtown Federal Building, with a 1
p.m. march and rally. — The Editors
