How to Get Involved

There are a number of ways to get involved with Lake Superior Socialist Action.  Below are three ways that you can get involved in helping to build the socialist movement.

Joining Youth for Socialist Action:  Youth for Socialist Action is the campus/youth wing of Socialist Action.  Our goal is to have YSA chapters on every campus in the region.  Joining YSA is very easy, and is a great way to see if joining the socialist movement is right for you.  Membership in YSA is open to anyone in their teens and twenties.  YSA has 2 membership requirements:

* Being in general agreement with YSA’s 10 Program.

* Paying annual membership dues of $15 (though this can be waived for special circumstances).

To apply to join YSA send your name and contact info to: Youth for Socialist Action, P.O. Box 16853, Duluth MN 55816 along with your dues. As a member you’ll receive an introductory literature packet, a membership card, and a one-year subscription to Socialist Action newspaper.

Volunteering With Socialist Action:  We encourage people of all ages who are interested in helping to build the socialist movement, but who aren’t sure if they’re ready to formally join, to volunteer with Socialist Action.  As a volunteer you get to pick and choose which of our projects or campaigns you’ll put your time and energy into.

Our group is involved in a ton of local activism and organizing, so there’s always plenty of things that we need help with, including: distributing Socialist Action newspaper and other literature, putting up fliers, staffing literature tables at public events, setting up YSA chapters on the campuses, raising money to help pay our bills, and helping us to build local coalitions like the Northland Anti-War Coalition.  If you’re interested in volunteering send an email to mnsocialist@yahoo.com

Joining Socialist Action:  Socialist Action is a small but growing revolutionary group of activists dedicated to helping lead a working class revolution in the United States. We are a two-fisted propaganda group that seeks to popularize and spread the ideas of revolutionary Marxism, while at the same time working with and helping to develop the social movements of workers, students and the oppressed. Through our political program, our experience and the dedication of our comrades, we are confident that we have something very important to offer the coming American revolution, and we invite you to join us in helping that revolution come about.

Membership in SA is open to open to anyone who is in general agreement with our program, commits to being an active member of the organization and who agrees to abide by majority decisions.  Dues are $5 a month, plus we urge our members to contribute more if they can.  Members are expected to attend our bi-weekly planning meetings, and to actively help carry out our projects.

To learn more about joining Socialist Action, check out our Membership Handbook (which you can also download as a Word document by clicking here) which summarizes our party’s program and the responsibilities of membership. After reading through the handbook, click here for an application to get you started on the path to becoming a member or supporter of Socialist Action!
